President Trump Requests Supreme Court Intervention in Lower Court Blocks

Files emergency appeal against injunctions blocking the termination of birthright citizenship.

President Donald Trump filed an emergency appeal with the Supreme Court on Thursday, requesting that the high court pause or overturn three lower-court rulings that are blocking his motion to limit birthright citizenship in the United States.

“Years of experience have shown that the Executive Branch cannot properly perform its functions if any judge anywhere can enjoin every presidential action everywhere,” Acting Solicitor General Sarah Harris wrote in the court filing, arguing that the use of injunctions to curb federal action has reached “epidemic proportions” during President Trump’s current term.

Though this emergency appeal specifically targets injunctions against President Trump’s efforts to restrict birthright citizenship, it could have much broader ramifications if the Supreme Court rules in the president’s favor. A number of lower-court injunctions are in place blocking a number of the administration’s actions, including the mass layoffs, the termination of “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” programs, and cuts to federal medical research.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump and Justice Department officials as they seek a ruling from the Supreme Court on the lower court stays and injunctions.
  • For members of the federal judiciary to uphold the Constitution and federal laws.
